Bergen Kaffebrenneri identity
Visual identity for coffee roaster
The friendly and casual Bergen Kaffebrenneri imports and roast coffee down at the docks in Møhlenpris, Bergen. In early spring of 2011 they asked Grandpeople to help them convey their story. Their eye-catching silver bags was already established as a signifier for the brand, so we decided to develop this further by adding three colors for the various degrees of roast: light, medium and dark. For us the most important aspect of the logo itself was recognition and originality. We wouldn't want to cram a certain narrative into the symbol, other than the fact that coffee derives from a plant. And we also wanted to avoid the nostalgia that seems to infuse the iconography of this particular market.
